Cathy and Don were lifelong fans of the traditional landline. For decades, it was how they stayed in touch with family, doctors, and neighbors. But when they moved, they ran into a frustrating surprise:
“Our telecom provider didn’t even offer landline service at our new address,” said Cathy.
Instead, they were pushed into an internet-based phone line. And that’s when the problems started.
Every time the internet went down—or the power flickered in a Florida storm—their phone line would go silent. Calls didn’t go through. And with the amount of traveling they do (often a week out of every month), Cathy and Don began to worry:
“We didn’t want to come home from a trip and find out we missed something important. What if there was an emergency and no way to reach us?”
