While Carriers Increase Fees, Community Phone Increases Data Allotment

Over the past 6 months cell phone carriers have sneakily increased their additional “admin” fees. This practice has been going on for years, yet it seems as if most carriers have been racing to increase their fees in 2018. Sprint started this race early in the year by increasing their administration fees from $1.99 to $2.50. AT&T followed this trend in July when they changed their administration fee from $0.76 to $1.99. That $1.23 increase will translate to around $800,000,000 in new annual revenue for AT&T. T-mobile was a little ahead of everyone and increased their fees by around a dollar as of June 2017.

In addition to increasing fees, carriers are also have been adding charges for other traditional services. For example, if you want to pay your bill over the phone you will now be paying up to $8 extra than someone who pays online. This seems like an unfair condition thrust upon members of our community that lack tech savvy and who find paying over the phone much more convenient. On top of all the fees, cell phone prices are on the up in general. Verizonand AT&T specifically are increasing their unlimited plan base rates as well.

On the other hand, as most cell phone companies race to follow fatter fees, Community Phone has decided to instead increase our data allotments. All plans will remain the same price; however, 3 of our most popular plans will see an increase of 500 MB to 1000 MB. Our Basic $25/month plan went from 250 MB to 1024 MB, the Standard $35/month plan went from 1500 MB to 2000 MB, and finally our Family $65/month plan has gone from 3000MB to 4000 MB! That means more videos, more music, and more of anything else you want! We are happy to be bringing more value to our members for the same price. Most of our customers should have already noticed the update in their plans and all other plans will have been updated by 9/15/2018 to reflect the new data plans.

Data Changes

We believe convenient and affordable access to technology should be available to all!
