Why should I transfer my landline number

You've had that old home phone number for years. Over those years you've used it as a contact for countless services and businesses, schools and organizations. Now you're ready to switch your provider. What happens when you cancel that service and lose your number? Those calls, texts and personal contacts continue to reach that old phone number. And when that number is reissued, a new phone subscriber now has easy access that personal information. Parking, Transferring or Forwarding the number ensures you keep the number, even when you cancel your old service.

What does it mean that my landline number is eligible? 

This means that your landline number is not “tied” to the phone or the provider. You are free to park, forward or transfer your number to a cell phone, and completely get rid your old provider.

What is Number Forwarding?

Number Forwarding is the process of storing a landline number and forwarding all inbound calls to an existing cell phone. This service is a replacement to your current provider, meaning you no longer need to pay your old landline bill or keep your landline phone.

How does CallerID and Voicemail work if I transfer my landline calls to my cell phone? 

Caller ID and Voicemail work exactly the same as normal wireless calls to your cell phone. The voicemail for your landline number will forward to your existing voicemail on the number receiving all forwarded calls: your cell phone, your other work number, etc. CallerID will show as normal.

Can I forward the landline number to two or more cell phones? 

Yes! This is a common request from couples or small businesses, who would like to have inbound calls ring on more than one phone at the same time. The first person to pick up the phone will get the call, and it will stop ringing all the other people's numbers.

Will this have an impact on my wireless service?

No. Number Forwarding has no impact on the wireless service existing on your current cell phone. As long as you have wireless service, you will be able to receive inbound landline calls.

Can I tell if a call is coming from my landline number or my cell phone number? 

Yes, you can set what you would like to appear on your phone when its a landline call by emailing us at help@communityphone.org.

If I port my number can I still make calls from my landline number?

Yes! If you forward calls to you cell phone, you can make outbound calls from your landline number using the cell phone you already use. If you transfer your landline number to its own cell phone, then it will work like a regular phone.
